My life took a turn at a young age after a hiking accident left my family shattered and my mother a quadriplegic. That tragedy was made worse because my parents had not created legal document that would have honored her wishes while she lay unconscious. Instead, my mother, and our family, suffered an entire year until she could die on her own terms.
Fast forward 30 years, I experienced a second life-altering transition; this time my own divorce. The experience made me, (an attorney!) feel so lost and helpless, that I realized there was a desperate lack of supportive guidance for families who are experiencing conflict or divorce. These two events became the impetus for me to find greater purpose in my career in ways I never could have predicted.
My legal career began at two of the world's largest global law firms, where I defended Fortune 500 companies in multi-million dollar class action and product liability lawsuits. While I mastered high-stakes negotiation, legal argument, and strategy, the work felt soulless. I wanted to be a trusted counselor to families, more than companies.
So I took a different path, from litigation to mediation and then to Life and Legacy estate planning. Today I feel honored that families trust me to guide them through life's most difficult challenges. Whether that's preparing for death and incapacity through an estate plan, mediating bitter family disputes, or helping couples restructure their families through divorce. I help them preserve their relationships and protect their assets and legacy through all of life's twists and turns.
